Behind the number.
Beyond the first look.

Food Ratings checks the Food Standards Agency's published data every day and keeps what it finds. When a rating changes, it records the old and new result and the day it noticed.

For the business behind the rating

You put care into it.
Let people see it.

Food Ratings already shows your latest published rating, its inspection date and the changes we've recorded. Business profiles are planned next: a clearer link between food businesses and the people choosing them.

Find your business on the map
What the planned owner experience could include
  • Confirm your connection to the business and manage its profile details.
  • View your official rating, inspection findings and recorded history in one place.
  • Get notified when we record a change to your published rating.
  • Add your menu and a verified ordering link.
  • See how diners find your profile.

None of this exists yet: there are no owner accounts or subscriptions. Official ratings stay independent, and paying would never improve a rating or hide past records.

Ordering isn't available yet. The plan is to start with links to participating restaurants' own ordering pages, then bring collection orders into Food Ratings as the service grows.

See how ordering could work
  1. Start with a restaurant link.

Open the participating restaurant's own ordering page. Checkout, payment and fulfilment stay with that service.

  2. Add collection orders.

With connected menus, availability and restaurant acceptance, diners could place an order in Food Ratings.

  3. Build around real demand.

Consider delivery integrations after the collection experience works well.

No ordering provider is connected. Food Ratings takes no orders or payments.

Good questions

A little clarity.

Here's what's behind the radar.

Where do the ratings come from?

From the Food Standards Agency's open data, which local councils publish after their inspections. Food Ratings checks it daily and shows when each record was last checked. For anything important, confirm the rating on the official FSA site (opens in a new tab).

Does a 5 rating mean the food is better?

A hygiene rating reflects the standards found at an inspection. It is not a review of taste, service or value, and it doesn't guarantee conditions today. Inspection dates matter too.

Why can a hygiene component score be zero?

The overall rating runs from 0 to 5, with 5 the best result. The detailed inspection scores use a different scale where lower is better, so a component score of 0 means “Very good”. Food Ratings shows clear labels so the two aren't confused.

Can I see all of a business's previous ratings?

Not all of them. The FSA's data shows the current rating only. Food Ratings records changes it sees from when its monitoring began on 6 October 2026, and labels them as changes it observed. Earlier inspections are not shown.

Is this a credit score for a restaurant?

No. The official rating stays on its own 0–5 scale (or Pass / Improvement Required in Scotland), and Food Ratings has not invented a separate score. If one is ever added, its method and limits will be explained separately.

Does Food Ratings use my location?

Only on the map page, and only if you allow it: your browser asks whether to share your location so the map can start where you are. It is never stored. If you say no, the map starts at a default area and every search still works. This page never asks.

Can I order food here now?

Not yet. Ordering is a planned feature, starting with links to participating restaurants' own ordering services. Food Ratings takes no orders or payments.

Is Food Ratings part of the FSA?

No. Food Ratings is independent and is not endorsed by the Food Standards Agency. England, Wales and Northern Ireland use the 0–5 Food Hygiene Rating Scheme; Scotland uses the Food Hygiene Information Scheme (Pass / Improvement Required). More about the data.
